According to The Jamaica Star

Popular deejay Ninja Man, whose real name is Desmond Ballentine, was denied bail when he appeared in the Corporate Area Gun Court on Thursday.

The deejay, who is charged with shooting with intent, illegal possession of a firearm, murder and conspiracy to murder, has been in custody since his arrest last week.

Ballentine was charged after an incident on March 17, in which 20-year-old Ricardo Johnson, otherwise called Ricky Trooper, was shot dead in the Lower Mall Road community.

Reports are that at 11:15 a.m., Johnson was sweeping his yard in the company of a friend when a grey car drove up. An argument developed between Johnson's friend and one of the men in the car, and the men then drove off. The car later returned and the occupants opened fire, hitting Johnson, who died at the Kingston Public Hospital.

After his arrest, the deejay denied the accusations. He is to return to court on April 7.

The Miami-bred rapper appeared on The Rickey Smiley Morning Show today (March 23) to promote his autobiography Magic City: Trials of a Native Son. During the interview, he made the shocking revelation that he suffers from Lupus, an incurable autoimmune disease, which makes the immune system attacks the body’s cells and tissue. Lupus affects all major organs in the human body, including the heart, kidneys and nervous system.

“I went to the doctor like 12 years ago. He took all kinds of tests, because I was trying to get rid of what we call dry skin, she did biopsies and blood tests and swab tests. She told me I have lupus. I am allergic highly to the sun, that’s my worst enemy. It’s like an AK-47 with a double clip on it. I could jeopardize kidney and liver failure from the treatment and the medication.” The disease, which affects African-American and Hispanics in disproportionate numbers, particularly women. The rapper also learned that a close female friend had the disease, when he noticed a visible change in her appearance. “A lot of people try to cover it up with regular make up. It makes your skin pigmented. You can go from dark to light and not light to dark. You have to cover it up and conceal it…my mama had 11 children from 10 different men. If she can live with that I know, I can live with this.” The disease has already taken the life of prominent Hip-Hop producer James “J. Dilla” Yancey, who died from complications of the disease on February 19, 2006, just three days after his 32nd birthday. In related news, Trick Daddy also announced he has landed his first major film role in a film that begins shooting next week. “They got me playing in a movie with a lot of gangsters from The Wire and the big black films. I can me, I can be a G in it.”

Barkley just pled guilty to 2 counts of driving under the influence and pleaded “responsible” to running a stop sign for the December 31 incident in Scottsdale. Barkley was sentenced to 10 days in jail — but will only do five if he completes an alcohol education program. Barkley was also fined $2,000.

Barkley will begin his sentence on March 21 — but it’s unclear if he will serve time in Arizona’s famed Tent City Jail, where they make the inmates wear pink. As for the gun cops say they found in Barkley’s car on the night of the arrest — no charges were ever filed.

New details have emerged over the alleged incident on Sunday morning between Chris Brown and a woman who authorities have not officially identified, but a source tells Access Hollywood is Rihanna.

The source told Access Hollywood that Chris Brown allegedly hit Rihanna with his fists and bit her during the alleged incident, which took place around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday. Brown, known in addition to his singing for his athletic feats of dancing — he has performed upside-down — previously said he studied martial arts, according to the New York Daily News.

Radar Online reported that a source inside Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where Rihanna was reportedly taken following the incident, said the singer became emotional when two female “assistants” went to visit her at the facility.

“Rihanna was clearly very upset by what had happened and I could hear her screaming,” the source said. “Rihanna was trying to get her point across about something, she sounded like she was crying as she tried to get… her point across.”

According to the BBC and the Stafford Crown Court, 41-year-old Edward Richardson of Staffordshire, England, killed his estranged 26-year-old wife, Sarah, after she changed her Facebook status to “single.” Facebook allows users to indicate their relationship status and what they’re looking for (romantic relationships, friendships, etc.). The couple had already separated, and Sarah, a hairdresser, had apparently already given up hope of reconciliation. She changed her status to single on her profile, an act that enraged Edward. After receiving a barrage of angry calls and text messages from her estranged husband, Sarah stopped responding.

Dancehall singjay Mavado whose real name is David Constantine Brooks and his management only moments ago unveiled the much anticipated video to his hit single 'So Special' on TJ Records Unfinished Business riddim compilation.

The video surrounded by an enormous amount of media hype was not premiered on Monday's edition of BET's 106 and Park as promised but nonetheless the soft launched via the internet was enough to get a lot of tongues wagging. Since then Mavado's management have issued a release addressing the issue.

"We were as surprised as everyone at BET's decision not to follow through on their promise to premier the "so Special" video on yesterday's 106 & Park. Despite 106 & Park's presenters hyping the premier for several days, including showing clips from the video, a last minute intervention by someone in the legal department prevented the video from airing.

"The anticipation was very high for the BET premier. We weren't notified until late in the day that there was a last minute objection by one of the legals over there, who had a censorship issue. He objected to "excessive display of alcohol" and "careless use of women as writhing set dressings!" The video is now available to watch online so people can make up their own minds about that."

Mavado's management went on to say that when the video was first submitted to BET they flagged several issues and were sent three (3) different edits before approval.

"The show's programmer had passed the video and had been running promos so she was livid at the decision," he continued. "Its disappointing but all is not lost. If anything this may help publicize the video even more - Mavado can't seem to step without some form of controversy!"

The partially computer generated project sees cameo from several high profile members of the Alliance including the Warlord Bounty Killer and Bling Dawg alongside Stacious and a flock of adoring females as Mavado demonstrates why he's 'So Special'.

In other news Mavado is slated to release his upcoming album dubbed 'Mr. Brooks - A Better Tomorrow' on March 4th 2009.

The director for the new Aaliyah biopic are doing extensive research for the little lookalike, Keisha Chante:

Fans anticipating R&B singer/actress Aaliyah’s forthcoming biopic can rest assured that the film is going to be as seamless as Jennifer Lopez’s praised role in Selena. According to Bill Condon, the director for the as-yet-untitled pic and famed director of the hit film ‘Dreamgirls’ starring Jennifer Hudson, Beyonce Knowles and Jamie Foxx, Aaliyah’s biopic and its cast are studying hard to make sure the pic is up to par. “We are going to great extremities to make this movie perfect. We have (Keisha) Chante in extensive… …training studying, speaking with family members, watching personal footage and in choreography training with Aaliyah’s choreographer and dear friend Fatima Robinson. This movie will will be seamless the same way it was for Selena fans who enjoyed Jennifer Lopez.” In addition to Keisha Chante, who has been cast as Aaliyah, the “One In A Million” singer’s choreographer Fatima Robinson, Timbaland, Ginuwine, and Missy Elliott are to be featured in the film. “Rock The Boat” music video director Hype Williams has also been tapped for the film to recreate Aaliyah’s final video shoot.

Sources close to the much-anticipated film say they’ll be “going deep into Aaliyah’s life”.

Notorious was good, but this one has the possibilty of being great. Aaliyah left a lot of unanswered questions about herself and her career. Hopefully this film will provide some insight.
